11321. Otto LaFayette Whittle (Burris, James Sr., William, Ellison, William H.) was born in Lowndes County, AL on 6 Sep 1875 and died there, 29 Feb 1964.

Otto and his first wife Lizzie A. (reported to be Cheatham) are farming in 1910. Lizzie says she lost her first child. One report on Ancestry.com says Lizzie died 24 Oct 1916. If this is true, Otto's first son whould be from Lizzie. On the 1920 census, he lists his 2nd wife as Leora, apparently Roberts, because his mother in law, Ethlyne Roberts, is living with them. Otto and Leora had at least 3 children.

11324. Claude C. Whittle (Burris, James Sr., William, Ellison, William H.) was born in Lowndes County, AL between 1881 and 1883.

Claude and his wife Sarah (Hanks, according to Ancestry.com) are operating a boarding house in Ft. Deposit on the 1910 census. By 1920, Claude is living in Birmingham and lists his occupation as meat salesman. There whereabouts after 1920 are unknown.

11325. Herbert Auby Whittle (Burris, James Sr., William, Ellison, William H.) was born in Lowndes County, AL on 9 Nov 1882 and died there in 1941.

Herbert and his bride, Myrtis (reported on Ancestry.com as Canterbury) are living in the household of Burrell James on the 1910 census. Herbert's occupation is usually listed as merchant in a general store.

11329. Irby Cecil Whittle (Burris, James Sr., William, Ellison, William H.) was born in Lowndes County, AL on Mar 1895 and died in Shelby County in May 1978.

Irby and his wife Gladys L. are found on the 1920 census living in the Mt. Willing District of Lowndes County. On the 1930 census they live next door to his brother Herbert.

11384. James Ellison Whittle (Burris, James Sr., William, Ellison, Jesse R.) was born July 25, 1907 in Pratt City, Jefferson County, Alabama and died there Mar 1980.

James first married Ellen Kelso on September 17, 1927, then Flossie Mae Owen on May 3, 1930. There is a record of his divorce from Flossie Mae in 1952 found on Ancestry.com. His 3rd wife was Hattie Pauline Riggs. The children of his marriage to Flossie Mae Owen are:

11386. Jesse Mitchell Whittle (Burris, James Sr., William, Ellison, Jesse R.) was born December 29, 1912 in Pratt City, Jefferson County, Alabama and died September 19, 1967 in Phoenix City, Alabama.

Jesse married Marion Nell Hardin December 17, 1932 in Phoenix City, Alabama.

113131. Herman E. Whittle (Burris, James Sr., William, Ellison, John E.) was born 30 Aug 1895 in Butler County, Alabama and died 29 Jun 1981 in Dade County, Florida.

Herman assumed duties as head of household after his father's death in Pensacola, Florida. On the 1920 census Herman, Martis, Brooks and Walter are living together. Herman lists his occupation as owner of a grocery store. Apparently a larger chain bought the store because we next find him in Hattiesburg, MS and a manager of a chain grocery store on the 1930 census. He married an Irish lady named Barbara A. Cassidy. Her brother lives with them in Hattiesburg and apparently works at the same store. No information has been found for any children.

113131. Vernon Ely Whittle (Burris, James Sr., William, Ellison, John E.) was born 26 Jan 1897 in Butler County, Alabama and died Feb 1966 in Long Island City, Queens, New York.

Vernon left Florida before the 1920 census and found his way to Manhattan. He served in the US Navy during WW I and is buried with his wife Erica in the Long Island National Cemetery. On the 1930 census Vernon, his German born wife Erica and their son, Donald are living in Queens, NY, his occupation is listed as salesman of sporting goods.

11551. Walter Marcus Whittle (Burris, James Sr., William, Emsley, Eldridge) was born 15 Mar 1868 in Lowndes County, AL and died 25 Jun 1932 in Forest Home, Butler County, AL.

On the 1900 census Walter is listed as a cousin living in the household of Ruben Whittle in Conecuh County. This Rubin, born about 1861 is first found on the census of 1880, living with his 16 year old sister, Martha, in Butler County. On the 1880 census both Rubin and Martha say their parents were born in SC. Ruben seems to be a previously undiscovered child of one of Eldridge Emsley Whittle's brothers, whom we know little about, assuming they are 1st cousins. Ruben and his wife Emmie have 6 daughters and 3 sons on the 1900 census.

Walter married Alice Little, 9 Nov 1909. They had 1 daughter:

11552. James Thomas Whittle (Burris, James Sr., William, Emsley, Eldridge) was born 1870 in Lowndes County, AL and died in Butler County after 1930.

James and his wife Rosa B. (reported on Ancestry.com as Ernest) are found in Butler County on the 1910 census. Rosa tells the census taker they have been married 18 years and she bore 6 children, only 3 are still living. Eldridge is still living on their farm on the 1930 census.

12323. Thomas A. Whittle (Burris, James Sr., Willis, Amos, Thomas) was born in Saluda County in 1875 and probably died before 6 Sep 1937 at Alms House Ward, Columbia, SC.

Thomas and his first wife Nancy are farming in Saluda on the 1900 census. Thomas must have decided that farm life wasn't his thing, on both the 1910 and 1920 census, he is working as a spooler in a cotton mill. His 2nd wife is Mincie Carver. No one in this family, except Claude, can be found on the 1930 census.

12324. James Edwin Whittle (Burris, James Sr., Willis, Amos, Thomas) was born in Saluda County Apr 1877 and died in Ward, Saluda County on 20 Dec 1932.

On the 1930 census James is living with his son Lake and his wife Fannie M. James Edwin's informat, Lake Whittle, states on his death certificate says that he was a widower and based on the 1920 census, his wife unknown died sometime after 1912.

4 F iv Trennie Lou Whittle - was born in 1910. "Aunt Trennie lived up the street from NH Whittle on Brandon Ave, Columbia, SC. I recall going to her small house and watching color TV for the first time when I was young. She also had air conditioning, something we did not." 5 M v N. H. Whittle - was born in 1912. "NH "Whit" Whittle was my grandmother's (Georgia Lorraine Bouknight Eleazer) second husband, after my grandfather (Robert Forrest Eleazer) died. NH was the only grandfather I had, I called him grandaddy and he called me Patsy. No one but him has ever been allowed to call me that! He worked at Southern Railway, where Robert Forrest and his 2 sons (one of whom was my dad) also worked. That is how he met Georgia Lorraine."

12683. Zeddie L. Whittle (Burris, James Sr., Willis, Alfred, Edward) was born in Catawba County, NC in 1896.

Zeddie is listed by the census taker as female on the 1910 census. There is a male "Jettie", born 1896, listed as the grandson of Harriet Yoder on the 1920 census. Zeddie is married to a woman named Barbara and they have a son named Marshall L. born in 1920. He is listed as the great grandson of Harriet Yoder. On the 1930 census Zeddie and Barbara are found in Baltimore, MD with a son Marshall born in NC in 1919. There is no proof that this is the same Zeddie but certainly there is good evidence.

12842. Albert H. Whittle (Burris, James Sr., Willis, Willis Jr., Green) was born 9 Oct 1882 in Saluda County and died there 18 Sep 1961.

Albert married Lillian K. Orander. Both Albert and his brother Willis were farmers in Saluda County.

Charley is found on the 1910 census living in Columbia working as a carpenter with his wife, Bessie, and their infant son. On the 1920 census Charley lists his occupation as life insurance salesman.

Greenberry is found on the 1930 census farming in Aiken, SC with his wife and one daughter. The 1930 census lists his age as 33, which is 5 years different than the 1910 census data. His mother Nancy Warren is also living with him. Green married Alberta (unknown).

Ollie and his wife Josephine Oswalt are found on the 1920 census farming in Black Creek, Lexington County, SC.

Travis was living with his brother RM in Darlington County on the 1930 census. Sometime after 1930, Travis married Letha Marie Truett. She was born in 1906 and died in 1983. From his obituary published in the Florence Morning News in 1973, Travis and Marie had the following children.

2 F ii Frankie Whittle - married John C. Northcutt and lived in Dalton, GA.

3 F iii Janice Whittle - married Jimmy Hodges and lived in Talmadege, OH.

12972. Ravenel McBeth Whittle, Jr. (Burris, James Sr., Willis, Mahlon, Ravenel) was born in Saluda County in 1900 and died in Hartsville, Darlington County, SC on 30 Nov 1964.

RM is found on the 1930 census with his wife Bertha Grantham Whittle living in Darlington County. Both RM and his brother Travis were auto mechanics. From his obituary published in the Florence Morning News in 1964, RM and Bertha had the following children:

2 F ii Sarah Margaret Whittle - was born in 1925. She married James E. Amerson and lived in Lumberton, NC.

3 M iii Bobby Carlton Whittle - was born 30 Sep 1935. He married Betty Jean Gilbert. Bobby is retired from the US Air Force.

12973. Mahlon Dupre Whittle (Burris, James Sr., Willis, Mahlon, Ravenel) was born in Saluda County in 1905 and died in Hartsville, Darlington County, SC in 1981.

Dupre married Marie Campbell. Four children are named in their daughter Laura's wedding announcement published by the Florence Morning News in 1967.

Carl married (unknown) Haynes or Pointe. No other information has been found.

12978. Clyde Marvin Whittle (Burris, James Sr., Willis, Mahlon, Ravenel) was born in Saluda County 28 Feb 1913 and died in Hartsville, Darlington County, SC in Feb 1980.

Clyde married Blanche Cassidy. Two children are listed in her obituary from the Florence Morning News in 1967.

12991. Prevost William Whittle (Burris, James Sr., Willis, Mahlon, Shelton) was born in Saluda County 21 Sep 1897 and died 5 May 1963 in Dade County, Florida.

Prevost worked as an electrical lineman climbing poles most of his career. He married Mildred Konemann on May 5, 1919. Mildred was born on January 24, 1903 in Columbia, SC and died on January 12, 1962. Her parent's were Charles Konemann and Mary Grimsley Konemann. Prevost and Mildred raised 11 children as well as caring for Prevost's father during his senior years. The legacy of Scratch Whittle is well preserved in FL, GA and TN.

2 M ii Shelton Dubose Whittle was born May 22, 1921, married Mildred Picoa on January 13, 1943. Mildred was born on November 25, 1920 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They are both still alive and live in Cloudland, GA. He is a retired schoolteacher and served in the US Navy. He and Mildred have three children: Donald Charles (aka Chuck) born March 20, 1945 in Miami, Florida. Susan Jane (aka Susie) was born December 20, 1950 in Miami, Florida. Patricia Ann (aka Patty) was born on June 24, 1953 in Miami, Florida. Donald married Charlotte Elizabeth McFadden who was born January 21, 1947. They have two children, Sarah Rebekah born August 11, 1980 in Hialeah, Florida and Shelton Paul (goes by Paul) born July 20, 1982 in Wildwood, GA. Sarah married Daniel Millican (born May 1976) on May 29, 1999. Susan married Robert John Wilcox who was born on May 27, 1949 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania. They have two children, Kelly Michelle who was born on November 21, 1974 in Miami, Florida and Kristi Jeanette Wilcox who was born on November 30, 1980. Kelly married Phillip Bradley Thomas (born on June 16, 1979). They have one daughter Shania Michelle Thomas, born on February 2, 1997. Patricia married William Clifton Rose who was born on November 23, 1956. They have one son, Justin Dewayne who was born on April 23, 1978.

3 M iii Charles Everett Whittle was born on November 6, 1923 in Fayetteville, North Carolina and died May 1, 1973 in Melborn, Florida. He married Alma Jean Cook (aka Jeannie) on January 4, 1947. Alma was born on January 5, 1928. They had four sons: Charles Duane (goes by Duane) born on January 17, 1950 in Miami, Florida, James Dennis was born on April 14, 1957, David George was born on April 24, 1953, and Robert Earl Whittle.

4 M iv Donald Wesley Whittle was born on August 2, 1925 in Columbia, South Carolina and died on June 24, 1945 in Columbia, South Carolina.

5 M v Herbert Ercell Whittle was born on Jan 19, 1929 in Columbia, South Carolina. He married a woman named Anita. They had one son, Herbert Ercell Whittle, Jr. He died at a young age and is buried in Southern Memorial Cemetary in Miami, Florida. Herbert was in the US Army and was sent to North Korea on December 20, 1950 for the Koren Conflict. He was seriously wounded in battle by a missile but survived and is now living in Cloudland, Georgia. He lives right next door to Shelton Dubose and his family.

6 F vi Joyce Elizabeth Whittle (aka Jo) was born on March 19, 1932 in Columbia, South Carolina. She married Walter Barrow on August 2, 1949. Walter was born on May 9, 1928. They had two sons, Donald Wesley Barrow who was born on November 24, 1955 and Wesley Kevin Barrow who was born on June 22, 1957. Joyce died on May 23, 1997 in Hepzibah, Georgia. She is buried on May 27, 1997 in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hepzibah, Georgia.

7 F vii Mildred Konemann Whittle was born on October 10, 1934 in Columbia, South Carolina. She married William Max Martin on December 28, 1953 in Ringgold Georgia. William was born on May 13, 1931 in Priestley, West Virginia. They had three children, Maxie Charlene who was born on July 14, 1956 in Crossville, Tennessee; William Max Jr. who was born on February 17, 1959 in Hialeah, Florida; and Wilma Jeanne who was born on January 24, 1961 in Hialeah, Florida. Maxie had one daughter with Whaler Stephens (they were not married) named Stefanie Paige Martin. She was born on June 18, 1981 in Crossville, Tennessee. She married Joseph Ray Johnson on June 11, 2005. Maxie had another daughter with Lawrence Edward Dixon (they were not married) named Heather Michelle Martin. She was born on June 23, 1982 in Crossville, Tennessee. She married Michael Darren Patrick on May 8, 2004 in Crossville, Tennessee. Michael was born on November 14, 1977 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mildred, Maxie, Wilma, and Stefanie all reside in Crossville, Tennessee. Heather and Michael reside in Knoxville, Tennessee.

8 M viii Thomas Ray Whittle (aka Tommy) was born on August 20, 1940 in Columbia, South Carolina and died on January 4, 1999 in Gainesville, Florida. He married Maxine Martin Bertram (the sister of William Max Martin, husband of Mildred Konemann Whittle, see above). They had one son, Thomas Ray Whittle, Jr. Thomas and Maxine divorced and he later married a woman named Mildred (aka Millie). They had two children, Richard and Lisa.

9 M ix Marion Landon Whittle was born on January 12, 1938 in Columbia, South Carolina. He married Darren Bell (aka Dee). They had two children, Veronica (aka Ronnie) and Walker Landon. Veronica married B.P. Plack.

10 M x Paul Whittle was born on October 3, 1942 in Columbia, South Carolina. He married a woman named Donna and they had three children. Donna Pauline (aka Binky) was born on May 20, 1967. Mildred Wendella (Wendy) was born on July 22, 1970. Gretna Jeanine (Jenny) was born on January 25, 1972. Paul’s second wife was Susie. She is from Korea. They had one son William Paul who was born on November 26, 1981.

11 M xi Carroll Whittle was born on August 22, 1944 in Columbia, South Carolina. He married a woman named Linda and they had three children, Lisa, Michael (aka Mike), and Michelle (aka Shelly). Lisa married Jimmy Gardner. They have two children, Jamie and Lindsey. They live in Lake City, Florida. Michael is also married and lives in Lake City, Florida. Michelle married Martin Cupp and they had two daughters. They live in Live Oak, Florida.

Patricia Ann (aka Patty) was born on June 24, 1953 in Miami, Florida. Donald married Charlotte Elizabeth McFadden who was born January 21, 1947. They have two children, Sarah Rebekah born August 11, 1980 in Hialeah, Florida and Shelton Paul (goes by Paul) born July 20, 1982 in Wildwood, GA. Sarah married Daniel Millican (born May 1976) on May 29, 1999. Susan married Robert John Wilcox who was born on May 27, 1949 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania. They have two children, Kelly Michelle who was born on November 21, 1974 in Miami, Florida and Kristi Jeanette Wilcox who was born on November 30, 1980. Kelly married Phillip Bradley Thomas (born on June 16, 1979). They have one daughter Shania Michelle Thomas, born on February 2, 1997. Patricia married William Clifton Rose who was born on November 23, 1956. They have one son, Justin Dewayne who was born on April 23, 1978.
3	M	iii	Charles Everett Whittle was born on November 6, 1923 in Fayetteville, North Carolina and died May 1, 1973 in Melborn, Florida. He married Alma Jean Cook (aka Jeannie) on January 4, 1947. Alma was born on January 5, 1928. They had four sons: Charles Duane (goes by Duane) born on January 17, 1950 in Miami, Florida, James Dennis was born on April 14, 1957, David George was born on April 24, 1953, and Robert Earl Whittle.
4	M	iv	Donald Wesley Whittle was born on August 2, 1925 in Columbia, South Carolina and died on June 24, 1945 in Columbia, South Carolina.
5	M	v	Herbert Ercell Whittle was born on Jan 19, 1929 in Columbia, South Carolina. He married a woman named Anita. They had one son, Herbert Ercell Whittle, Jr. He died at a young age and is buried in Southern Memorial Cemetary in Miami, Florida. Herbert was in the US Army and was sent to North Korea on December 20, 1950 for the Koren Conflict. William was born on May 13, 1931 in Priestley, West Virginia. They had three children, Maxie Charlene who was born on July 14, 1956 in Crossville, Tennessee; William Max Jr. who was born on February 17, 1959 in Hialeah, Florida; and Wilma Jeanne who was born on January 24, 1961 in Hialeah, Florida. Maxie had one daughter with Whaler Stephens (they were not married) named Stefanie Paige Martin. She was born on June 18, 1981 in Crossville, Tennessee. She married Joseph Ray Johnson on June 11, 2005. Maxie had another daughter with Lawrence Edward Dixon (they were not married) named Heather Michelle Martin. She was born on June 23, 1982 in Crossville, Tennessee. She married Michael Darren Patrick on May 8, 2004 in Crossville, Tennessee. Michael was born on November 14, 1977 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mildred, Maxie, Wilma, and Stefanie all reside in Crossville, Tennessee. Heather and Michael reside in Knoxville, Tennessee.
8	M	viii	Thomas Ray Whittle (aka Tommy) was born on August 20, 1940 in Columbia, South Carolina and died on January 4, 1999 in Gainesville, Florida. He married Maxine Martin Bertram (the sister of William Max Martin, husband of Mildred Konemann Whittle, see above). They had one son, Thomas Ray Whittle, Jr. Thomas and Maxine divorced and he later married a woman named Mildred (aka Millie). They had two children, Richard and Lisa.
9	M	ix	Marion Landon Whittle was born on January 12, 1938 in Columbia, South Carolina. He married Darren Bell (aka Dee). They had two children, Veronica (aka Ronnie) and Walker Landon. Veronica married B.P. Plack.
